Greg was a 15 year veteran of Atomic Energy Canada Ltd. He was one of those people that everyone liked and that everyone spoke to. In fact, because he was so good at understanding technology he became to much of a “go to guy” to just help fix that one little thing, that he had to start saying “no” to helping his colleagues so he could focus on his own work.

When Greg decided it was time to move on, AECL was disappointed to lose a valued team member but Greg would not change his mind.

The parting was amicable and Greg spent almost 2 weeks in a series of long interviews intended to gain an understanding of Greg’s multiple projects and responsibilities. With two days left before moving on, someone suggested to the director they give Transition-Path a try.

Transition-Path promised to deliver results in 60 minutes – not two weeks. The director accepted.
Greg was agreeable and friendly but openly sceptical. What did the interviewer know about C++ programming he asked? He’d spent already two weeks in interviews, what else could they possibly get from him?

Nevertheless he was curious and a eager to participate.

At the 45 minute mark, Greg was so fascinated by our visual of what he had accomplished that he asked for a copy for himself.

At the 60 minute mark, the BroadScope™ was complete and AECL elected to move directly into the Detailed Discovery™ phase as now they saw the value. The Detailed Discovery™ was focused on Greg’s cultural knowledge (at his manager’s request).

At the 135 minute mark the director came back into the conference and reviewed the visuals we’d created.

She was stunned to learn that Greg was the key person in an organization of 3500 that was doing “Server Virtualizing”, a red flag critical function that if dropped would be very costly to the organization. This project was quickly handed off to a successor.
